Designing a room may seem hard at first, but when you break it down into steps, it is quite simple. There are a few basic ground points to achieve success in this.
- Think of a themes. The theme of my room is bright and colorful. My colors include light blue, bright green, deep pink, and neutrals such as white or light grey. The main metallic in my room is silver. This now brings us to color schemes.
- Determine your color scheme. A minimum color scheme is a color, and neutral, and a metallic. An example would be light pink, white, and gold. So one could paint their walls light pink, have a white furniture, and lots of pink and gold accents. If you have a huge painting or photo you plan to print on a canvas, you can even use a website to pull the colors right from the image.
- Determine the basic layout of your room. First, measure the dimensions of you room. Then you can go two ways from here. One way is to use a website like Home Styler to layout your room. This will help you see what you have room for. For example, if I had a full bed in my room, I either could barely walk around my room, or my bed would be blocking my window. So I kept my twin bed instead.
- Get basic furniture. Now, get your major furniture, like a bed, nightstand, dresser if you need one, wardrobe if you don't have a built-in closet, etc. If you plan on having a lounge chair or bench, get that too. Just make sure you know exactly where you are going to put it and do not force things into your room you don't have space for.
- Add in accents. After you have your furniture, decorate your room with pieces that match your theme. Your color(s), metallic, and a few neutrals. Explore new stores and find unique pieces to make your room you. Going to cute little small businesses is very great. Places such as Old Ellicott City in Maryland are nice places to find some unique decorations. Explore and be creative! I wish you luck with designing your room!
